NOVANOL – our Resol-CO2-System

The NOVANOL system is a core manufacturing method with alkaline-condensed phenolic resin binder that is cured through gassing with CO2.

The NOVANOL method offers the following advantages:

  • Good final strength values
  • Excellent casting results, even without coating
  • Largely solvent-free; only very low emissions during manufacturing and storage of the cores
  • No gas washer required

Possible limitations of the method we feel are important to mention:

  • Unsuitable for light alloys
  • Low initial strength values, unsuitable for complex core geometries
  • Unsatisfactory disintegration in light alloy casting
  • Highly alkaline sand, waste sand regeneration currently still possible with restrictions

Here, the following metals and plastics are resistant to NOVANOL resins:

  • Hard polyethylene
  • Polypropylene
  • Teflon
  • Gray cast iron
  • Stainless steel
  • Fiberglass-reinforced plastics

Aluminum, copper and zinc-plated metals are not resistant.
