ASK Chemicals presents mini-risers from local production at ANKIROS 2016

ASK Chemicals’ presents at ANKIROS trade show locally manufactured EXACTCAST ADS and OPTIMA KL mini-risers....

Hilden, 09/08/2016 - ASK Chemicals’ special highlight at the upcoming ANKIROS trade show from September 29 to October 1 in Istanbul will be its locally manufactured EXACTCAST ADS and OPTIMA KL mini-risers.

Visitors are invited to meet a competent team of foundry experts and experience an in-depth presentation of innovative foundry solutions in Hall 3 at Booth B 150.

Innovative riser technology from local production
From its recently installed manufacturing site in Gebze, ASK Chemicals is supplying the Turkish market with its innovative mini-riser solutions. EXACTCAST OPTIMA risers noticeably increase efficiency in foundries. These mini-risers are fitted with a loose metal part in the bottom section (nozzle) and are fixed with a rigid pin designed to achieve an exactly defined breaking point and to reduce fettling costs. A further benefit is the virtually frictionless sleeve and the integrated riser cap of the EXACTCAST OPTIMA, which prevent crumbling particles from falling into the mold during the compaction process. Riser applications with rigid pins usually destroy the riser during compaction, and crumbling particles from the riser can fall into the mold, which needs to be purged with air afterwards. This can also happen when using spring pins under high compaction pressures. EXACTCAST OPTIMA risers, by contrast, are fitted with a cover of non-friable material, preventing mold contamination and related casting defects and thereby raising the cycle times of the molding systems.

EXACTCAST ADS mini-risers are highstability solutions suitable for nobake and handmold applications. They are free of fluorine. The riser can also be fitted with an open spring pin for use on automated green sand molding lines.

In general, EXACTCAST mini-risers offer some key advantages over conventional risers. Due to the reduced parting face of ECACTCAST mini-risers or the use of metal grommets, the parting face is considerably smaller, resulting in reduced fettling costs (Fig. 1). Thanks to the riser formulations, EXACTCAST mini-risers have a relatively small volume compared to other solutions and a higher yield. Foundries can thus produce more castings from just one oven charge.

UDICELL filter technology for steel applications
UDICELL filter products for steel applications will also be displayed at ASK Chemicals’ booth at ANKIROS. In particular, the fully sintered UDICELL foam ceramic filters, produced from partially stabilized zirconium oxide (PSZ), are the first choice for use in steel and iron foundries. Thanks to their chemical, thermal and mechanical robustness, UDICELL filters have a very high load capacity and enhance efficiency during the production of steel castings and medium to large iron castings as well as in investment casting. In addition, the latest UDICELL tubular filter technology (Fig. 2) will be staged in Istanbul. UDICELL tubular foam ceramic filters are perfectly suited to the secure filtering of large quantities of liquid metal and feature a unique, value-added design. The advantages of this design include more than three times the filter area compared to a conventional plate-shaped filter of the same size, self-supporting geometry, minimized risk of filter breakage, a compact structure, and quick and easy installation.

Inoculation Technology
The supplier of foundry chemicals and consumables will have on display at ANKIROS its highly engineered inoculants for gray (GI), ductile (DI) and compacted graphite (CGI) iron. Each inoculant is unique in design to provide performance characteristics that satisfy today’s demanding casting requirements. GERMALLOY and SMW Insert are solid cast inserts used for the mold inoculation of ductile iron. They are either placed in the drag portion of the mold or anchored in the pouring basin of very large castings. GERMALLOY is widely used to improve the nodule count of graphite within a casting, as well as to enhance its mechanical properties. SMW Insert inoculants, on the other hand, are well known for their ability to eliminate the formation of chunky graphite in heavy section ductile iron. OPTIGRAN is the mold inoculant for gray iron. It provides finer Type “A” graphite in gray iron.

Design and simulation Services
Finally, Design Services round off the ASK Chemicals' offering. Design Services support the entire process from the development of the design concept and validation right up to the production of the cast-part prototype. ASK Chemicals’ experienced engineers have a clear understanding of all aspects of foundry technology and metallurgy and the right combination of design, production and simulation expertise. The simulation of casting processes provides foundries with valuable information that allows for the optimization of gating and feeding systems, overflows, venting design and risers. Moreover, it provides critical insight into the influences and effects directly related to casting integrity, such as cooling and heating measurements, and filling and solidification times. ASK Chemicals’ simulation services offer wide-ranging technical knowledge and understanding combined with state-of the-art simulation programs (MAGMA, Novacast, FLOW-3D and Arena-Flow).
